The internationalization sector of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE) was created in 2007, initially as the International Cooperation Office (ACI). Internationalization at UFRPE was boosted from 2012 onwards with the Science Without Borders (CsF) program, a federal public policy for international mobility at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In 2020, the Internationalization Nucleus (NINTER) was established, an integral part of the IPÊ Institute, whose objective is to promote innovation, research, entrepreneurship, internationalization and institutional relations at UFRPE. Among other activities, NINTER has been working to promote internationalization, including supporting partnerships between UFRPE and 80 international institutions, as well as providing guidance on scholarship opportunities in international academic mobility programs.
The internationalization process was strengthened with the implementation of the Languages Without Borders (IsF) program, starting in 2014, offering free in-person English and Spanish language courses, as well as Portuguese as a foreign language, at the main campus and academic units. Other linguistic training opportunities for internationalization are offered through partnerships with the Department of Letters (DL), the Language Nucleus (NID), the Integrated Nucleus of English Language, its Literatures and Teaching-NILLE of UAST, the Distance and Technology Education Unit (UAEADTec) and the UFRPE's Language Arts courses, within the scope of the Program of Face-to-Face and Remote Language Teaching (PEPRI). Furthermore, since 2019, UFRPE has been part of the Andifes-Languages Without Borders Network, a new phase of the IsF Program that allows the academic community of all universities in the network to participate in free online courses in German, Spanish, French, English, Italian, Japanese and Portuguese as a foreign language.
Since 2016, in partnership with the French Embassy, UFRPE has participated in the French Assistant Program, offering French courses at basic, intermediate and advanced levels, enabling the qualification of potential candidates for mobility opportunities in France, such as the BRAFAGRI program. Since 2019, with the support of NINTER, UFRPE has participated in the CAPES-Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program, following the approval of the Intercultural Actions and Internationalization Project for UFRPE Teacher Training, designed by UAST Language Arts professors, benefiting the entire UFRPE academic community.
